Celebrating the life of

Richard Oland Lee

April 23, 1934 - October 08, 2023

Richard Oland Lee

Richard Oland Lee, 89, of Tybee Island passed away on October 8, 2023. Born in Savannah in 1934, Richard spent many summers playing on Turner’s Creek where his grandfather was the bridge tender. After a stint on an aircraft carrier during the Korean War, Richard moved to Maryland where his mother and brothers lived. It was there that he met the love of his life, Inge, while she was working for the German Embassy. After a successful career as a contractor in the Washington D.C. area, Richard and Inge moved to Tybee Island in 1979 where he continued his successful career in Property Management and Contracting. The two lived out their days enjoying life on the water and watching the glorious sunsets.

Richard is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Inge, and his parents James Edward and Majorie Lee. He is survived by his brothers Edward Lee (Elaine) and Bob Lee (Marti) as well as many nieces and nephews.

Richard was a kind, loving, and generous man with a great sense of humor and a knack for storytelling as well as fashioning creative pieces from driftwood and other found items. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

A visitation and service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13 at Fox & Weeks on the Islands followed by a Celebration of Life and small gathering at his home on San Marco Dr., Tybee Island.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be made to The Humane Society of Greater Savannah, 7215 Sallie Mood Drive, Savannah, GA 31406 or to the ASPCA.

GUEST BOOK

I am deeply saddened by the demise of Richard who I remember as a very kind, gentle and funny person. We shared many exciting boat rides and fishing trips around Tybee Island which were sometimes pretty adventurous. He was an excellent story teller sometimes with a philosophical touch. May he rest in peace and reunite with his beloved wife Inge who passed away 4 years earlier. I offer my sincere condolences to his family.

In silent memory of my dear Uncle Richard. I will always carry you in my heart as a wonderful, humorous and lovable person, Birgit

You will be missed deeply, your humor, your humanity, your love! Thank you for everything, thank you for beeing my Uncle (Onkelchen) Richard, thank you for taking me in as a 18 year old German teenie and showing me the beauty of Chesapeake Bay and later on Tybee Island! For always in my heart, Gabi

Today, I fondly remember my uncle and godfather, Richard Oland Lee, who would have turned 90 today. Although we lost touch after the passing of Inge, his memory remains cherished in my heart. Learning of his passing on our shared birthday doesn't diminish the joy of this day, but rather adds a bittersweet layer to its significance. Richard, may you find peace and comfort in the embrace of loved ones who have gone before you. To Richard and Inge, may your love and memories continue to inspire and uplift all who knew you. With heartfelt condolences, Kai
